Dunhuang culture stands as a unique paradigm of the convergence between ancient Chinese civilization and foreign cultures, with its ceiling motifs, known as caisson ceilings, representing the essence of Dunhuang’s patterns. Within the grottoes of Mogao, these “caisson ceilings” occupy the central portion, symbolizing the heavens beyond. Drawing inspiration from the Mogao Caves’ caisson designs, this pillow cover features the elaborate scroll-petal lotus canopy motif, a colorful painting from the mid-Tang Dynasty. The central design of the large scroll-petal lotus signifies the auspicious wish for “prosperous offspring born amidst lotuses.” Its color palette, reminiscent of mid-Tang Dynasty ceiling art, exudes a gentle elegance, imparting a sense of tranquility and peace.
